Overview– While CanoScan 8800F Canon and Epson V600 battle in the sub $ 200 flat Contest film scanner, Canon, discreetly, both manufactured with the film higher resolution flat ever: the CanoScan 9000F.

With a resolution of 9600×9600, dpi optical can virtually paint your house with a slide of 35 mm. And only $ 50 more than the CanoScan 8800F, the update will not make you wince.

We use an analysis unit for a few weeks now. retail units had not started shipping when wrapped this comment. But only the white box gave the pattern of pre-production nature of this unit.

Although all three of these scanners are stunning small boxes providing more value per dollar than I’ve seen in a dish, scanning your films and print files is no less difficult than ever.

So I always feel compelled to warn readers that, in practice, a flatbed scanner is more likely to be used to squeeze every bit you can get out of an important image. It is less susceptible to scan your entire lifetime of memories. The scanning process is simply too slow for that.

Our V600 review is the first for this device category, it includes a short course on digitization. It also includes our recommendation for reasonably scan your collection of photos. We even call names.

We are skeptical that this device class can handle the demands of the original faded and difficult emulsions (such as Kodachrome). And we were the suspicious dynamic range, they can capture, especially a problem with slides. We were disappointed that none of them provide a way out of the box, to build a scanner profile, although SilverFast and VueScan can do this if you do not mind an additional purchase (more IT8 targets).

But in a sense, we miss the boat. LED lights in them are consistent enough that the standard provided by the manufacturer profiles working fine. When the software is most likely is not with color negative (which, unfortunately, is likely to be the most common storage media). They are not as sophisticated as SilverFast or VueScan when it comes to negative scanning color.
